The tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, which is also known as the citric acid cycle, plays a central role in both energy metabolism and material metabolism including carbohydrate, lipid and amino acid. The rate of TCA cycle is limited by citrate synthase, isocitrate dehydrogenase and α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase.
